My No-Diet Christmas List

Faded Fall (5)

My colleague and anti-diet tribe member Sara Upson and I were having a conversation about her awesome blog post about body positive, non-diet gift ideas.

This got me thinking about a different sort of Christmas gift wish list.

The one I would create for my clients and really all of us.

You know that song “Grown Up Christmas List?” If you haven’t heard the song, it basically talks about what we would truly ask for as adults if we could really get whatever we wanted on our Christmas List.

I thought of my own version the other day, except mine is a No-Diet Christmas List.

My version would include all the things I wish for my clients for Christmas.

So without further ado…

My No-Diet Christmas List My No-Diet Christmas List

Do you remember me?

I am your body

You have been hating me almost as long as you can see

I thought you would grow out of this

Or reach a magical size where you would desist

But the truth is you just keep hating me.

So I am making you a list

Of all the things I want for us to be

Maybe if I ask for them, someday you will want them too.

This is my No Diet Christmas List.

No more diet talk

No fit-spo Instagrams to stalk

Young people would be taught

That this is no way to live

That health looks different

That everybody deserves respect

This is my No Diet Christmas List.

When people gather around

we wouldn’t put our bodies down

and every single day

we wouldn’t live with so much shame

we would all find out what we truly need

even if that means going to therapy

No more diet talk

No fit-spo Instagrams to stalk

Young people would be taught

That this is no way to live

That health looks different

That everybody deserves respect

This is my No Diet Christmas List.

In my dream world we would get to enjoy holidays

without all the guilt and the latest diet craze

No more carb and gluten free

Because that’s not what we need (unless you have a legitimate health diagnosis)

No more disordered world

Making hard for us to see

Who is disordered or “just dieting”

This is my No Diet Christmas List

Everyone would have respect

For the bodies that they get

And self care and rest

Would be just as important as doing reps

Food could just be fun

No one would have to run

To make up for what they eat

Because they would trust their bodies to know what they need

This is my No Diet Christmas List!

That was fun! Now I want to change all the Christmas Songs…maybe I will do an anti diet version of Santa Baby next, because I legitimately hate the lyrics to that song.

If you need me I will be over here waiting for T-Swift to contact me for next years “No Diet Christmas Song Album.”

Okay, that probably isn’t a thing. But a girl can dream.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, or just some good time off of work. However you chose to celebrate- I want to give you a challenge. Go into every celebration over the next week with this “No Diet” tune in your head and sing it when you are feeling sucked in by all the diet talk. People will be gearing up for their crappy Diet New Years Resolutions (more on that next week!). It will be a battle, but even if this little song makes you chuckle…do whatever it takes to make it through with your recovery in the front seat!

Someday, maybe we will live in a world where all of the things I dream of…for myself, my children, my loved ones, and my clients will come true.

This is my No- Diet Christmas List.

What’s yours?
